The Wilno Tavern Restaurant

The Wilno Tavern Restaurant dates back to the 1890s when the original hotel was the stopping place for pioneer families, travellers and visitors to the Wilno hills. Decorated with artifacts and photos preserving the history of the lumbering, railroad and farming in the Madawaska Valley, the tavern provides a friendly spot to discover the unique character of the village.

The tavern is now world-famous for serving traditional Polish food as well as a hearty Canadian menu. Our perogies and cabbage rolls are made from scratch following recipes from Wilno family kitchens. Sledzie (pickled herring), homemade soups, Polish sausage, saurkraut, red cabbage and mouth-watering desserts combine to give our guests a flavour of Wilno-style Polish cuisine.

Other menu items include fresh salads with homemade poppyseed dressing, vegetarian offerings, hearty sandwiches and burgers, pizza, selections such as pork schnitzel, rainbow trout, lighter snacks and a Kids Meal Deal. Reservations are strongly recommended for the May to October weekend Polish Food Buffet, while the Friday Nite Pizza buffet is popular year round.

The tavern hosts Tuesday Nite Blues Jam (cover charge during summer months), Country Music House Party (first Friday of each month) and occasional weekend entertainment featuring Celtic, classic rock, reggae and local singer-songwriters.
